Our philosophy
In today’s world, themes such as functionality and footprint have become increasingly important. We consciously choose to shift our focus and energy toward beauty and authenticity. When you stay with us, you are surrounded by real materials, combined with a subtle modern interpretation of what remains from the serene atmosphere of the past. With this atypical approach, we hope to inspire you during an unforgettable stay at Beim Mulles, Château de Clémency, Tailor’s Trail ‘Gîte d’aventure’ Beaufort – Mullerthal, Our Hippie Castle or Oranienburg.
Let’s talk about… Wabi Sabi
All our choices and compositions are inspired by the philosophy of Wabi Sabi. This Japanese philosophy, somewhat unconventional and even rebellious, reminds us that time passes and that everything eventually comes to an end. It explains the deep fascination we feel when surrounded by the profound beauty of Japanese objects, such as a simple tea bowl.
This concept celebrates the way natural and authentic materials age over time and gently invites us to care for them with respect and kindness.
Throughout our guesthouses, you will find many expressions of Wabi Sabi: concrete floors, solid wooden tables, restored wooden floors, traditional lime plaster, and more.
Let’s talk about… Old & New
The restoration of our buildings was guided by the search for a delicate balance between old and new, with the utmost respect for preserving and caring for the original elements and character.
Alongside this, you will find a thoughtful composition of modern and contemporary materials.
Let’s talk about… Ecological footprint
Choosing to restore and respect existing buildings, rather than demolish them, is already a significant step in reducing our ecological footprint. The buildings have been renovated in a gentle, energy-conscious way.
It is also important to know that there is no air conditioning, which significantly reduces energy consumption. During summer, the thick walls naturally keep the spaces cool, while in winter we focus on retaining warmth as efficiently as possible.
Let’s talk about… Our beds
We have consciously chosen beds of 200 x 160 cm, allowing our guests to enjoy a classic and intimate sleeping experience. Each bed is made with individual duvets, offering comfort and personal space.
The mattresses are of high quality and made from 100% ecological cotton, produced in France. All laundry and cleaning are done using ecological products.
The use of natural materials and careful cleaning creates a fresh and healthy atmosphere.
Let’s talk about… Air conditioning
The house, built in 1570, has very thick and solid walls. During restoration, we chose to enhance insulation while not installing air conditioning, in order to respect the authenticity and beauty of the building.
As a result, the house remains pleasantly cool in summer due to the thermal mass of the walls, though naturally not as cold as air conditioning.
Let’s talk about… Coffee
Step back in time and enjoy the authentic ritual of making coffee the traditional way.
In a world driven by convenience, we celebrate craftsmanship. Each cup becomes a small moment of attention and care. This method not only enhances flavor, but also reflects our commitment to sustainability.
Every sip is a tribute to tradition and to a time when simplicity and quality came first.
Let’s talk about… Shampoo
You will not find a typical shampoo in your room, for several reasons:
We dislike plastic
We do not know what suits you best
Instead, we offer the real thing: Savon de Marseille — natural, pure, and timeless. Wonderful for both hair and skin.
Presented in an elegant stone dispenser.
Let’s talk about… Old stairs, full of stories
The house still has its original stairs. If you listen carefully, you may hear the stories they carry.
There is no elevator. If stairs are a concern, please let us know — we are happy to advise you.
May we invite you to share this beauty with us?
