A Rebel Bohemian Hideaway at Hippie Castle
Tucked beneath the historic roof of Hippie Castle in Vianden, Serge & France is intimate, unconventional, and full of character.
The original medieval walls and roof structure were restored with great care and respect. Within this authentic shell, new architectural volumes were gently inserted — creating subtle separations while keeping the space fluid and open. The result is cozy yet bold, raw yet thoughtful.
The room unfolds in levels:
• An open living area under high, expressive rooflines
• A sculptural organic staircase leading upward to the sleeping space, protected and intimate
• A semi-separated bathroom volume integrated into the architecture
One clean wall displays large-format imagery of Serge Gainsbourg — poet, provocateur and icon of the Paris Left Bank. An organic wall carries urban spray elements inspired by his legendary Paris home, long covered in graffiti.
The “France” refers to France Gall and her winning Eurovision song Poupée de cire, poupée de son, written by Gainsbourg — a subtle cultural link to Luxembourg. Small doll figures quietly echo this story inside the room.
Like all spaces at Hippie Castle, this room offers privacy within a carefully restored medieval house — while generous shared areas downstairs invite guests to meet, talk, and share moments in a relaxed, open spirit.
Serge & France is not simply a room.
It is poetry, rebellion, and architecture woven together beneath centuries-old beams.
